About Us

We Are Stardust.

Chennai Astronomy Club began in November 2013 as a Facebook group started by two college students who wanted to look up at the sky with others and learn as they went.

Thirteen years later, that spirit remains the same. We are a volunteer-run, non-profit community brought together by curiosity, shared learning, and a love for astronomy. Everyone who helps keep the club going does it because they care about making the night sky more accessible to all.

Why a Club Like This Exists

Astronomy is easier when you don't have to figure it out alone.

Find Your Way Around the Sky

From Saturn to star clusters, someone shows you where to look and how to observe.

Get Comfortable with the Gear

Telescopes and accessories can be confusing at first. Members walk beginners through basics so they can observe with confidence, whatever equipment they have.

Meet People Who Care

The club brings together people who are curious about astronomy, from first-time skywatchers to experienced observers.

What We Do

Star Parties

We travel to darker locations outside the city to observe with telescopes, binoculars, and the naked eye.

Monthly Meetups

Talks, gear demos, planning sessions, and member-led discussions in the city.

Outreach

School programs, sidewalk astronomy sessions, and public observing events.

Workshops

Hands-on sessions on telescope basics, visual observing, and astrophotography.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't charge membership fees.
  • We don't sell telescopes or endorse brands. We share what we've learned so members can make their own informed choices.
  • We don't offer paid home training sessions.
  • We don't donate telescopes to schools.
  • We don't run this like a business. The club exists because people volunteer their time, knowledge, equipment, and energy to keep it going.
